To facilitate the establishment of the Hobart Northern Suburbs Passenger Rail Service and the preservation of the rail corridor between Hobart and Brighton for rail services.
This proposal features zero emission, electric/battery rail vehicles traversing the existing northern suburbs rail track between the City (Mawson Place), New Town, Moonah, Glenorchy, Berriedale, Claremont, Granton, Bridgewater, and Brighton.
Some stations have passing loops and recharging facilities to allow trains to travel in both directions on the single track and batteries to be recharged whilst passengers embark/disembark.
In peak times trains could operate at 12 minute intervals, providing a fast and convenient alternative to driving the Brooker Highway.
